Hunstanton CAP Centre

Union Church is involved with other Christians in running a CAP Debt Centre - a free debt counselling service that enables people to work their way out of debt.

The Centre operates for two days per week, usually on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10am to 4pm. It is run by a Debt Centre Manager, with the support of a Prayer Team and a Support Team. Much of the casework takes place in the comfort of the clients’ own home and there is a drop-in surgery most Wednesdays between 10am and midday at the Community Café, downstairs at Union Church.

Although based in Hunstanton, the service extends to surrounding villages in North West Norfolk including Heacham, Dersingham, Snettisham and along the coast to Thornham.

The Centre Manager, accompanied by a member of the support team carries out a number of home visits to clients to help them organise and assemble all their financial information, refers the information to the CAP head office team in Bradford to work up a budget and debt management proposals, and then revisits the client to discuss and agree their preferred course of action. CAP will continue to work with a client throughout their journey to becoming debt-free.

The Support Team member meets the client on the interviews with the Centre Manager, and offers long term friendship support for the client. They encourage the client and assist them in finding other support through the local church (e.g. Foodbank, etc).

The project is supported by a Prayer Team who meet bi-monthly to pray for the Centre Manager, Support Team and CAP clients. Their role is to encourage the Centre Manager and Support Team through prayer.

Who are Christians Against Poverty?

Christians Against Poverty is a registered charity which exists because nobody should be held hostage by debt and poverty. But the truth is that they are rife in the UK. In a society where people live behind closed doors, thousands are desperately poor. Unable to feed their children, incapable of paying to heat their homes in winter, the grip of poverty is relentless. It breaks families apart and drives many to think that suicide is the only solution.

We are passionate about releasing people in our nation from a life sentence of debt, poverty and their causes. Through our services, which are all run through local churches, we are tackling poverty head on. Our vision is to bring freedom and good news to people in every community through 1,000 CAP projects by 2021.

CAP is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
